The credit of reliving Milkha Singh’s journey must go to Farhan Akhtar. That is what Bhaag Milkha Bhaag does well. They’re perhaps the most relevant pieces of sporting history and they deserve to be told with conviction to a generation that would do well to learn something from it. He was the international athlete of his time. He conquered the sprinting track in 1958. What the Flying Sikh achieved in his lifetime was more than just milestones. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and writer Prasoon Joshi present the human and emotional value of Milkha Singh’s achievements. Yes it shows Milkha Singh’s sporting achievements but it doesn’t portray him like a clichéd cinematic hero. It’s a solid biopic drama one that doesn’t unnecessarily glorify its subject. Had those histrionics been avoided this would have been the film to watch.īut take nothing away from the impact of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. It presents the ethos of Milkha Singh to great effect but in its whopping 3 hour 10 minutes run time it employs too many unnecessary dramatic, humour and entertainment elements to distract you from one of the most important sports stories in this nation’s history. This movie is both incredibly inspirational and tedious. ![]() ![]() ![]() That’s one piece of silly humour you won’t even find in Khushwant Singh’s joke books. So where you have the inspirational “Chirian to mein baaz tudaun, gidran to mein sher banaun, sawa lakh se ek ladaun, tabhe Gobind Singh naam kahaun” (I’ll make a sparrow fight a falcon, I’ll make lions out of hyenas, I’ll make one man fight a million warriors and only then will I be called the true guru, Gobind Singh) you also have this rather embarrassing exchange: Stella (Milkha Singh’s Australian love interest) asks “Are you guys relaxing?” to which Milkha (Farhan Akhtar) says, “No! Myself Milkha Singh, 400 meters”. Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Pawan Malhotra, Divya Dutta, Sonam Kapoor, Prakash Raj and Dalip Tahilīhaag Milkha Bhaag employs Guru Gobind Singh’s famous words and a sad old Sardaar joke with equal conviction.

![]() I'm not really sure how you can apply that math into power handling on a speaker. it is the square root of the average of the sum of the squares of the power being output over a certain period of time, which is a value of amplification. ![]() Hm maybe 150W is the maximum amount of power it should be fed? It could possibly take that much power consistently.īut Root-mean-square power is not really a handling value, it is a power output value. ![]() Truth is I would have to hear any pair of speakers first to judge them properly. I even had a guy at Soundtrack tell me that 200 watts max was pretty high for a 15" 3-way pair of speakers. And I do hate the fact that most everybody lists the max power rather than the RMS. I just wanted to know what the RMS power handling is. If the shipping costs are reasonable, take their bet, since that is all that you are risking. They are betting that you wll like them and keep them. The best way to tell is order them and try them. I have dealt with that company, and they have a very good return policy (although you have to follow up to make sure that they credit your account). I am assuming a soft dome of some sort, which may be good.īottom line: I haven't a clue how they will sound from the description. Natural fiber tweeters is a very interesting statement. No word on driver surround? Better drivers have rubber surrounds and cast baskets. Radiused corners are good, while pointy square corners are cheap to manufacture, are not durable, and add diffraction and re-emission. Real wood veneer is good, I guess, but has nothing to do with the sound. It has great damping properties, and it is cheap and easy to work with, so it is industry default. I still can't believe that manufacturers brag about MDF, which is basically very thick cardboard. Although many high accuracy speakers exhibit low efficiency, the reverse is not necessarily true. That won't keep me from rendering an opinion!Ĩ6db is surprisingly low efficiency for a 3-way. There is not much of anything in those specs. These are now on sale for just under $300. It was tested in an acoustically perfect room. The only source I plugged in was an AMC CD player. ![]() I played the A1 with Acoustic Energy AE100 speakers on sand-filled Atlantis stands. In my opinion, this is the greatest amplifier bargain anyone has ever built, especially at 469.00 $ cdn. This is an integrated, so it won't pack unlimited power, but never was I thinking of cranking up the volume knob of this 30 watts/channel at more than halfway. It's so nice and sweet, it's just flowing around you like a cool autumn breeze in a maple's leaves. But what made me go the Cambridge Audio way was its incredible midrange. Both remaining contestants had excelent highs, the bass was very well tempered and precise, even though it won't make you forget Bryston or Conrad- Johnson. The NAD and the AMC didn't make the final cut. So i went to a couple of hi-fi shops I knew and listened to NAD, Arcam, Cambridge Audio and AMC amplifiers. That time came for me a couple of months ago when I had to choose an amplifier to drive my Acoustic Energy speakers. In every man's life there's a time where he has to go through the burden of choosing the amplifier for his system. Whoever at phillips designed this i.c is a genius. This little amp sounds so amazingly rich and deep. If you are thinking about purchasing this thing used from someone I suggest going to the 47 labs reviews on this site and reading some of the glowing reviews there because that's what you will be listening to if you get ahold of one of these. Although some of the newer cambridge stuff may still be using this chip, i'm not certain. Yep, this is basically the same thing except it sells for about $400! Cudos to cambridge audio! Too bad this product is no longer in production though. I should also mention that the same i.c power amplifier is being used in the 47 labs gaincard amp(or whatever it's called) that sells for something like $4000. If you look inside the unit you will see how many few parts the amp uses (something like 9 components per channel-no s*it). First i should mention that this amplifier uses an integraded chip amplifier that provides it the 35 watts it gives out. ![]() ![]()

These development kits were known as "Orbis". In 2012, Sony began shipping development kits to game developers, consisting of a modified PC running the AMD Accelerated Processing Unit chipset. In designing the system, Sony worked with software developer Bungie, who offered their input on the controller and how to make it better for shooting games. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan said Sony wanted to avoid repeating the same mistake with PS3's successor. The delay placed Sony almost a year behind Microsoft's Xbox 360, which was already approaching unit sales of 10 million by the time the PS3 launched. Less than two years earlier, the PlayStation 3 had been launched after months of delays due to issues with production. Its successor, the PlayStation 5, was released in November 2020, with Sony discontinuing in Japan all PlayStation 4 models except the Slim version in January 2021, with it still being produced in Western markets following a statement of at least 3 more years of support for the PS4.Īccording to lead architect Mark Cerny, the development of Sony's fourth video game console began as early as 2008. ![]() On September 7, 2016, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 Slim, a smaller version of the console and a high-end version called the PlayStation 4 Pro, which features an upgraded GPU and a higher CPU clock rate to support enhanced performance and 4K resolution in supported games. Critics and third-party studios, before its launch, also praised the capabilities of the PlayStation 4 in comparison to its competitors developers described the performance difference between the console and Xbox One as "significant" and "obvious". The PlayStation 4 was released to critical acclaim, with critics praising Sony for acknowledging its consumers' needs, embracing independent game development, and for not imposing the restrictive digital rights management schemes like those originally announced by Microsoft for the Xbox One. The console also supports HDR10 High-dynamic-range video and playback of 4K resolution multimedia. ![]() The console's controller was also redesigned and improved over the PlayStation 3, with improved buttons and analog sticks, and an integrated touchpad among other changes. Moving away from the more complex Cell microarchitecture of its predecessor, the console features an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) built upon the x86-64 architecture, which can theoretically peak at 1.84 teraflops AMD stated that it was the "most powerful" APU it had developed to date. A console of the eighth generation, it competes with Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Wii U and Switch. Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 3 in February 2013, it was launched on November 15, 2013, in North America, November 29, 2013, in Europe, South America, and Australia, and on February 22, 2014, in Japan. That would be awesome. Tim said: Thanks again Jeff, looking good. That bug getting fixed and some of the fields auto-populating would be nice though. The Compendium addition and the fact it lets you drag/drop and lets them be clickable on the sheets to show in the chat is FANTASTIC. ![]() I see myself using the new one over the old one from here on. Other than those little things, the new sheets are really awesome. Or perhaps a way to group things (moves, equipment, spells) in categories or a header showing them. Perhaps have a visual indication of the spells that are prepared, so that you don't have to open them to check. Coin field doesn't really like numbers that are 3 digits. Hit Points / Load don't auto populate anymore in-accordance to your stat/mods. The XP doesn't figure out the total needed for a level up anymore. Nitpicks/Feedback: - The quality of life stuff from the original sheet being gone is a little rough. Not intended behavior, probably that element is grouped or something with bonds, not sure. This means that like with 3 bonds, it moves those stats underneath the Moves section below it. This is what I've surmised from that: Bug: Expanding on Bonds/adding more Bonds shifts its column down, but it also shifts the second ability stat row down (INT, WIS, CHA). Haven't had a game with them yet, but I've been spending an hour or 2 remaking my players sheets to the new ones, so I'd at least understand better on how to use them. Howdy! I really like what y'all did on these sheets, they feel a lot more beefy than the old ones. When you add a new Move, Spell, or Item to its respective section, you can drag from the Compendium to a blank (or filled!) entry to fully populate it. You can change the size of the gear/spell columns by selecting their priority. Settings You can choose to add all moves, only class moves, or no moves at all when you drop a Class into the Class field. Drag a Class from the Compendium to your "Class" field on the character sheet, and it will populate the starting moves for your class, as well as some other basic information, like your class damage. For this to work properly, you must at least have the name of the Move, Spell, or Equipment filled in. All but the former also use the header (The name of the Move, Spell, or Equipment) as a roll button to output the relevant roll or data to chat. ![]() Bonds, Moves, Spells, and Equipment all have expansion togglers to the right of their header. This will affect the statistic across the sheet, so in moves as well. ![]() If you have a relevant debility for a statistic, check its named box to enable it. It is suggested that the story is appropriate for ages 7 and up, but I wonder if children younger than 14 or 15 are actually able to discern right and wrong in such a way as to understand that the main character of this story is not to be emulated but rather reviled. This, however, is one of the few children's stories I know of that hails the criminal, casting them in the lead role. Kids are accustomed to there being a bully or thug lurking in the background of a cartoon, comic book, or picture book. Many children's books have bad guys in them. Barnum is as crooked a character as they should learn about. If a book about a conman wants to be directed at young children, maybe P.T. As subject matter, it seems to me that the story of Robert Miller, aka con artist "Count Victor Lustig", is better suited to an older demographic. Perhaps the author is nearly as great a conman as the " hero" of this book. I'd like to know what the editors at Viking were thinking when they approved this one to be marketed to such young readers. It may seem silly getting my undies in a serious wad over a mere children's book, but it's precisely because it is a book devised for children that I feel compelled to come out strongly against it. Initially, I rated this book 2-stars, but by the time I finished this write-up, I realized I didn't really think the book was "ok", and lowered my rating to the lowest possible. ![]() This review appears on an episode of the “Best Book Ever ” segment of the Let’s Get Busy podcast. Because there's some hidden art there that I think you'll really enjoy. When you pick up a copy of his book, make sure that you lift up the flap as well, the jacket. This is going to be a book that really stands up for an outstanding example of nonfiction and he's got such a gripping story, that it's wonderful. And, I don't know, it's just pulled off in a way that I feel like, "Here is a picture book that people will be reading aloud to kids in elementary school or middle or high school. And I love the content because he tells the story so well, Greg narrates the story so well, but also has these great sidebars and other historical information about Alcatraz and about other buildings along the way. I love that the art feels like Rocky and Bullwinkle. Twice, in fact, to scrap metalists at a time when they were going to tear down the Eiffel Tower. Pizzoli once again employs a candy-colored palette and an ebullient cast-the pink-and-green look, and even some of the characters, are reminiscent of his The Watermelon Seed. One of my recent compositions for the diatonic dulcimer in Ionian tuning, in this case in key of C (CGG), is called Tumbling Skies. If I wanted to play jazz, I’d probably do that on guitar. Every instrument has it’s limitations and, for me, the key to working within the limitations of the diatonic dulcimer is to either play music that suits the dulcimer or is composed specifically for it. The desire to play more styles of popular music seems to be the key driver for adding extra ½ frets, but I personally feel that misses the point of the dulcimer. The diatonic pattern is lost when additional frets are added and so the visual reference disappears. Each chord family (major, minor, 7 th etc) has several, unique chord shapes, each of which will always result in a chord of the same family. Secondly, the diatonic pattern gives a very strong visual reference for the DAA chord shapes I use. Furthermore, tuning and re-tuning the instrument is easier, faster and more precise with single strings.Ī true diatonic fretting pattern is even more important to me for several reasons – here are just two: Firstly, unlike the guitar, there is no need for inlaid marker dots, as the diatonic pattern shows clearly where you are on the fingerboard at any one time. ![]() Decorations, slides and vibrato are all more precise without paired strings. Having only 3 strings allows me to play fingerstyle cleanly and expressively. To illustrate this important aspect of the diatonic dulcimer, my 2014 album Au Vieux Moulin features no fewer than six different dulcimer tunings. ![]() Perhaps the most successful of these is what I call Reverse Ionian (CCG or BBF#), which I use for one of my train tunes: Bullet Train. Bagpipe tuning is used for my most popular minimalist piece: Le Ruisseau Du Moulin (The Mill Stream).Īs well as Ionian/DAA, modal tunings and Bagpipe, I’ve stumbled across a number of other tunings, all of which support the major scale. DAD without any ½ frets would result in the Mixolydian mode, but because Bagpipe supports Mixolydian, I’ve not used DAD for decades. Bagpipe tuning not only supports major scale melodies but also the Mixolydian mode. The TAB for Etude can be found here.Īs well as the modal tunings, I play in Bagpipe tuning (AAA, BBB or CCC) to give major scale tunes a rich and strong drone. My piece Etude, in the Aeolian mode (DAC), was written to illustrate this very point and is littered with accidentals without using any ½ frets. Moreover, tuning to the different modes does not require any ½ frets and, as well as conveying different moods, each modal tuning gives access to different accidentals (out of scale notes) on the middle and bass strings. Tuning to the different modes results in the correct drones for that mode and thus presents a stronger sense of atmosphere and modality than anything I’ve heard played in DAD. This is one of the most powerful and versatile aspects of the dulcimer, as each modal tuning evokes a distinct and different mood. To this day DAA, but more commonly for me in the key of E (EBB), is the tuning I use most for the major scale.įollowing on from Roger’s great work, I also use modal tunings to access the minor scales. Ionian mode, now called DAA, but typically then in (or near) the key of C (CGG), was the tuning used at that time to play major scale pieces. The late, great Roger Nicholson was my main inspiration when I started out and his dulcimers had that same configuration too. My first dulcimers followed this configuration, as do my dulcimers today. At that time the instrument typically had an hour-glass shape but more importantly, it had 3 strings and a diatonic fretting pattern (ie no ½ frets). It was back in 1972 when I first saw (what when we then called) the Appalachian dulcimer. This article aims to explain that configuration and thus the approach I have to the dulcimer. Whilst I enjoy many benefits from DAA, and there are many, the real reason is not just about the pros and cons of DAA vs DAD, but about the configuration of the instrument itself. ![]() I am often asked why I play mostly in DAA, rather than today’s more dominant DAD tuning.
